Immigration DNA test
From $495.00
Identilab meets the Department of Home Affairs’ requirements for immigration DNA testing and sample collection locally and abroad, and has extensive experience in liaising with Australian Embassies, High Commissions, Consulates and approved panel physicians for overseas clients. We are also accredited by NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) for Genetic Analysis under ISO/IEC 17025 – Accreditation number: 20162
Immigration DNA testing is performed in Australia when a visa or citizenship applicant is asked to provide the Department of Home Affairs (formerly known as the Department of Immigration and Border Protection) with evidence of paternity or other stated biological relationship between two or more people. This is determined by comparing the genetic profiles from 2 or more people to determine whether they are biologically related. With our Immigration DNA test sample collection kits available to buy online, it doesn’t matter whether you’re located in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth or any regional Australian centre – Identilab can help.
The Department endorses DNA Genetic testing as a reliable means of providing evidence of a claimed biological relationship and may suggest that visa or citizen applicants undertake a DNA test when documentation, such as birth certificates, is not satisfactory evidence of the claimed relationship.
If you need a paternity DNA test to see if a man is the biological father of a child, or a maternity test to see if a woman is the biological mother of a child, please complete the details below to order your test. You must also upload a copy of the letter you have received from the Department that requests the DNA test below, email it to [email protected] or post it to PO Box 419, Salisbury QLD 4107. This helps direct us in our testing, particularly if any participants are located overseas.
If you need kinship DNA testing for immigration purposes, such as sibling, aunt/uncle-niece/nephew, or grandparent-grandchild testing, please contact us on 1300 114 294 or via our contact page and we will tailor a package to your specific situation.

There are 3 easy steps to
getting an immigration
DNA test in Australia:
1. Order
Place your order online or by contacting us by phone, email or through our contact form. We’ll send collection kits for participants in Australia that day if ordered by 12pm on a weekday. Kits are sent to participants in Australia in discreet packaging via Australia Post. Kits for overseas participants will be sent once we have received advice from the Department of Home Affairs about the collection location.
2. Collect
Your collection kit includes full instructions on how to have your samples collected by your chosen medical professional. It’s just a swab from inside the mouth – no blood tests required. Please note that any charges for this collection are to be negotiated with the collector and are not covered by Identilab testing fees. A security satchel and pre-paid envelope are included for returning the samples to the laboratory. If you are located in Brisbane, we can collect your samples in our office at no charge. Collection of overseas samples will take place at an approved panel physician as directed by the Department of Home Affairs. Please note that while we do assist in this process, Identilab is not responsible for these collection appointments.
3. Results
Once we have all the samples at the lab, we’ll perform our testing as quickly as possible. You’ll receive your results via email within 5 business days of us receiving your samples (providing the samples are of good quality and additional testing is not required). Results will also be sent directly to the Department of Home Affairs.
