How much does a DNA test cost in Australia 2024?
We sometimes get asked why our DNA tests aren’t $89 like some other DNA testing companies on the internet. These companies are usually located overseas, meaning it can take longer to get your results (if you get them at all), it’s hard to talk to someone if you need your test results explained to you, and you are not protected by Australian Privacy Laws. They often test less areas of DNA than we do (making the results less reliable) and they haven’t gone through a rigorous accreditation process to ensure the quality and reliability of the results.
Identilab offers at home, legally admissible paternity, immigration and kinship testing. These are carried out in our Brisbane laboratory according to the same procedures, ensuring the same level of accuracy. The only difference is the way in which the samples are collected. The pricing shown below is applicable clients Australia wide.

At home DNA test pricing in Australia
Samples for at home testing are easily collected by you in your own home using our DNA test kits. As the identities of the people involved in testing have not been confirmed by an independent person, the results cannot be used for legal purposes. They are simply for your own information and peace of mind.

Legally admissible test pricing in Australia
Samples for legally admissible testing must be collected by an appropriate medical professional, the identities of the people involved in testing must be confirmed, and the chain of custody of the samples must be maintained. When samples have been collected in this way they meet the requirements of the Family Law Regulations and the results can be used for legal purposes, such as in Family Law disputes, for visa applications through the Department of Home Affairs, and for changing birth certificates.
Please note that there may be additional charges for your sample collection, which should be negotiated with your chosen collector. These charges are beyond our control and are not covered by Identilab testing fees.
